Question on Brubaker and Phillips' CRIMINAL

I picked up the 5th and 6th trades during a sale and am wondering: is this a continuous storyline, or separate arcs that focus on different characters? Can I read these volumes without having read the previous ones and get a worthwhile story, or should I wait until I get the others?

Youd be fine reading them separate.
Its kinda like Sin City where the characters inhabit the same city and time overlaps between different arcs, but the actual stories are self contained.

This is a great series that I have not kept up with. I read the first HC and that's it, but I really enjoyed it. Must look into getting the rest.

I'd considered buying the deluxe editions, but since the volume 5 and 6 softcovers were just $5 apiece, I grabbed 'em. I'm sure I can find the others for less than cover price.

Vol. 6 is my favorite. I loved the more eclectic style and the mature readers spoof of the Archie universe.

I finished volume 5 last night. It was great, and Dark-Flux was right: I had no problem following the story, even though Tracy Lawless had previously appeared in volume 2. Brubaker laid everything out very well.

Now starting Volume 6!
