I am taking issue:

Can someone help me understand why my husband thinks that paying good money for a FS Namor statue just to put it in his fishtank? Won't it be ruined by the water and any chemicals that might be in it. Will the paint hurt the fish....will I ever see the good $ again.

Confused in Oregon......

I have to agree, those things aren't made to be submerged in water. I think eventually the paint will just lift off and then the fish will eat it and there goes the fish and the statue.

If you can find a place or way to coat it in clear plastic it will work.

Or if you can place it in a clear class case and submerge that in water too. but even moisture will wear out the paint.

Might be better off finding a water proof paint specially for water and paint the statue in that color. Sorta like a copper statue rusting in water.

I got my father-in law a Aquaman action figure for his fish tank. He humoured me and out it in there. Then a white film developed around the figure and he had 3 expensive tropical fish die, Aquaman was suddenly gone. These companied that make fish tank decorations should do a Aquaman & Namor they would sell a lot of them.

If it kills the fish, you can put your fishfood budget towards another statue.

I would also say the chemicals in the resin would kill the fish too.

Also, it depends on what type of tank it goes in. Salt water-no way. Brackish-tolerable. Tropical-what the heck? Fish are cheap!

Vince had a good idea about the submerged glass case. I did that with a tank once and aside from the occasional algae, it worked like a charm.
