Well I guess we will know where to point the starships, when we have them. Sigh. I was born far too soon.

Planet will destroy us before we could even dream of destroying it.

"We should go to the moon and prepare a base to fire a rocket off to Mars and then go to Mars and colonize Mars. Then when we do that, we will live forever,” -Ray Bradbury

Change is inevitable, and getting our species's fate from being tied to one world will be an important step forward.
We do have a lot of time to do so. LOL Sadly our meager lifespans are not going to allow me to see it happen. Only just the first baby steps I've been able to see, I guess that I should feel lucky for.

That's not based on facts.
Pollution and resources are important issue yes, but we are not "destroying" the earth. Bare in mind the many huge extinction events this earth has had occur long before us. We could pop off every nuke in existence to our detriment, but this earth would STILL endure including life recovering.
It endures. The earth becoming uninhabitable is easily BILLIONS of years into the future. SO we do have some time.
Human populations are indeed soaring. What is it 7 billion? We could have 90 percent of humanity wiped out and still endure as a species.
Not to mention our technological prowess on creating NEW solutions to problems is always evolving.
New ways to grow food much faster with far less land and even with much less water for instance are under development.
New energy sources will be discovered as we open deeper secrets into quantum theory.

"The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program." - Larry Niven
