Heh, I remember after Bryan Hitch completed my request for a Shanna the She-Devil pencil piece and I said that I was thinking of having it inked - Bryan looked at me and said "Why?". I immediately ceased all mention of having it inked

I prefer inked. I think everything I own is inked, except for a couple things in my sketch book that I don't really use any longer.

For me it really depends on the artist. As already mentioned there are some whose pencils are absolutely amazing and inking can actual do more damage than good, but then there are others whose work really benefits from the ink.
I based the decision on the artists work. I try to look at their pencils and inks if possible or instances of others inking their work.

2013 was the first time I gave pencils to be inked. I enjoy the inked pieces more but was always of the mind set that i Could get more pencil pieces if I did not pay for inking.
Now that I Am trying to limit commissions, I may get more inked pieces.

It varies for me. If it's cheaper to go pencil-only, I do that. If pencil/ink is affordable, I do that. It's purely case-by-case.

I prefer things getting inked just because I worry about the pencils fading.
