"MAD's Original Idiots" trade paperbacks
I love classic MAD. I'd seen bits of info on these for a couple of months, so it's nice to see that DC has finally included them in their solicitations. I'm not into collecting the Archives, but I'm all for cheap trades:
MAD’S ORIGINAL IDIOTS: JACK DAVIS TP
Written by HARVEY KURTZMAN
Art and cover by JACK DAVIS
On sale SEPTEMBER 30 • 152 pg, FC, $14.99 US
Hoo hah! One of MAD’s original “Usual Gang of Idiots,” artist Jack Davis specialized in parodies of horror and Western stories. This new title collects his work from the original 23 issues of the MAD comic book, all written by Harvey Kurtzman, including hilarious spoofs of The Lone Ranger, Alice in Wonderland, movies High Noon and The Barefoot Countessa, TV game show What’s My Line, plus an adaptation of the poem Casey at the Bat and much more!
MAD’S ORIGINAL IDIOTS: WALLY WOOD TP
Written by HARVEY KURTZMAN
Art and cover by WALLY WOOD
On sale SEPTEMBER 30 • 176 pg, FC, $14.99 US
Again, hoo hah! One of MAD’s original “Usual Gang of Idiots,” Wally Wood specialized in parodies of science fiction and war stories, as well as slick Hollywood films. This new title collects his work from the original 23 issues of the MAD comic book, all written by Harvey Kurtzman, including twisted takes on Superman, Batman, Little Orphan Annie, Flash Gordon, Prince Valiant, Julius Caesar, and movies like The Wild One, The Caine Mutiny and On the Waterfront.
MAD’S ORIGINAL IDIOTS: WILL ELDER TP
Written by HARVEY KURTZMAN
Art and cover by WILL ELDER
On sale SEPTEMBER 30 • 200 pg, FC, $14.99 US
Yet again, hoo hah! One of MAD’s original “Usual Gang of Idiots,” Bill Elder may have been MAD’s most versatile artist, able to mimic any other artist’s style while still retaining his own “chicken fat” approach to cartooning. This new title collects his work from the original 23 issues of the MAD comic book, all written by Harvey Kurtzman, including parodies of Sherlock Holmes, Frankenstein, Wonder Woman, Archie Comics, Popeye, Mickey Mouse, The Shadow, Dragnet, and much more.
And if you're up for all 3, you can get the slipcased collection:
MAD’S ORIGINAL IDIOTS: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION OF THE WORK OF JACK DAVIS, WILL ELDER AND WALLY WOOD IN MAD COMICS #1-23
Written by HARVEY KURTZMAN
Art by JACK DAVIS, WALLY WOOD and WILL ELDER
On sale SEPTEMBER 30 • 528 pg, FC, $44.99 US
Can’t decide which MAD ART book you want the most? We humbly suggest you buy them all in this new slipcase that includes all three volumes spotlighting the art of Jack Davis, Wally Wood and Will Elder, pulled from the pages of MAD COMICS #1-23!

I loved Mad magazine back in the day. Don Martin and Spy vs Spy was great. May have to go look and pick up some paperbacks for sh!ts and giggles.

Agreed. Interestingly, the first 23 issues from which these trades draw were color comics. While it was humor, it was very different from what MAD Magazine would become.
Also, Marvel is releasing a Masterworks edition of the entire run of Not Brand Echh in June. That's a fun series, very similar to the original MAD.

Already have the Not Brand Echh on order. And that Mad slipcase may be mine. Wish they did one for Dave Berg.

BTW, Weird Al Yankovic has become the first Guest Editor of MAD Magazine in it's history. Great issue!
