Even though we're of different eras I'd have to say CCR defined mine as well. Having grown up with Fogerty, Lennon and many others in the household this is what I listened too and still now play as much as I do any other contemporary band out now.
Everyone in their youth around my time might has listened to something they don't listen to now, and I know I did, but the stuff I still listen too is the same stuff you listened too.
I sure as hell don't listen to gangsta rap or Korn or any other crap I did back then nowadays.
And most of the bands that were prominent around my time like say Pearl Jam, SP, Soundgarden, while I listened to them I wasn't incredibly fanatical about them. Unlike bands like HUM and Failure who were of the same period as the others in the 90s, I only discovered years after they had long disappeared. =(

AC-DC Back in Black was always in my friends tape deck. Also Def Leppard, Aerosmith (Permanent Vacation), Van Halen, and Heart.

I would say the Police, Journey and Styx defined my high school years. These three bands simply ruled 1980-1983.
