Someone Please explain...

...why in the Sci-Fi movies we always try and kill/capture the Alien...Starman and TDTESS still come to mind...If they have the Technology/Intelligence to reach Earth...Why do we think they would be the only one coming...or could come...?...And what makes us think by taking them out would reduce the threat from their Civilization rather than increasing it...?...I don't get it...

My guess would be that Hollywood likes to portray us as dumb as possible?

Because who would watch a 2 hour movie where aliens land and then we all just sit around a table chatting about how a faster than light drive actually works and that no we can't build one because one of the required parts doesn't exist on Earth.

I would say because most movies aren't trying to predict what will happen with our actual first contact with an intelligent alien life form.

They are trying to entertain.

They are using a sci-fi setting to explore our own xenophobia and our willingness to believe that all of our problems are the fault of someone else.
