I was over at Dick Blick ordering some replacement pencils and I discovered that Dick Blick actually has video's on thier site that give brief descriptions for many of the different types of pencils they offer from companies like Faber Castell and Caran d' Ache. On top of that, they have a video for Prismacolor that actually demonstrates what blending pencils/markers do and shows what a huge difference they make. Its a great video for those that have never used blending pencils before.
Here is the link for the Prismacolor video, which shows the blending pencil technique:

Here is a video for Caran d'Ache Luminance Colored Pencils:

Caran d' Ache Luminance & Faber-Castell Polychromos are the 2 main brands that I use now and they really are amazing and absolutely worth the extra cost if your really serious about coloring. I also have a set of Prismacolors as I started out using that brand back when I was in art school and they are a nice mid level quality pencil. I don't use them very often anymore as I really prefer Caran d' Ache & Faber-Castell now, but again they are a great mid level pencil if you don't want to spend the higher prices on Caran d' Ache & Faber-Castell.

I have the F-C watercolor pencils and can't stand them. They sharpen so poorly. But I might pick up some of their other pencils. I have three sets of pencils now and I think my Crayolas are close to dead. Then I will move on to my Prismacolors.
OC, you might want to check out the two coloring books by Bennett Klein, "colour my sketchbook" vol 1 & 2. They are really neat and different. I came across him on Facebook. He is a really cool illustrator from the UK.

I have never cared for watercolor pencils. Then again, I have never really cared for watercolor in general. When it comes to drawing, I like charcoal drawing, colored pencils by Caran d'Ache, Faber Castell and occassionally Lyra Rembrandt Polycolor oil pencils. All 3 of those have amazing blending capabilities. Watercolor's have just never been my cup of tea. And if I decide to use markers, which is pretty rare these days, its Copic all the way for me. Those are by far the best colored markers I have ever used.
And thanks for the heads up in regards to the "Color my Sketchbook" Vol.1 & Vol.2 by Bennett Klein. It took me all of 10 seconds looking at this picture to decide to order them:
And best of all they were only $6.99 for Vol.1 and $7.99 for Vol.2 on Amazon. From what little I have seen, these look incredible. Given, they aren't very big, but for thay price they look more than worth the cost. So again, thanks for the heads up! I will definitely enjoy those.
I really urge you to place a small order from Dick Blick and buy just a few different pencils from Caran d'Ache's Luminance line or Faber Castell's Polychromo's line, along with a couple of blending pencils. I think you will be amazed at the massive increase in overall quality that you will get. Prismacolor are decent, but you will definitely notice a difference between those brands and Prismacolor. If you want a few recommendations, here are some of my favorite colors:

I have vol. 1 and love it. I am waiting for a combined haul before i get vol. 2. Yes, they are a bit pricey, but he has plenty of awesome designs in them. I am actually starting to dislike thick books. They just get tedious to color in. I like the smaller volumes. Less weight. I actually scan pieces out of that book and print them on thicker stock. Plus, I want to try different color schemes with every design. Here are two I am working on....all done with Crayolas. I am going to try a few of the above pencils.
