Did a UV filter come with it? Maybe I don't have to buy one!

Dude...SERIOUSLY...put a UV filter on your lens at all times for protection alone! If one didn't come with the camera, go buy one---now! They're about $15.

Heads up all new XTi owners, if you aren't very schooled in SLR digital cameras, you should definitely pick up a book. It's worth it. I've learned a lot in a few days!

Another suggestion...when we post pics, we should list what lens we are using. I'd especially like model #s & if they're macro or not.

"get the EF-S 60 f/2.8 USM macro lens. it's a nice, sharp lens.

Now I'm a little confused. Macros are for taking super close pics of small things, right? Would you use a macro lens to take a full length pic of a Bowen statue? For example, the Nick Fury pic I took the other day. Would that have been better served with a macro lens?

Yup, very true. Just picked up a book myself and will be sure to read it before getting the rebel later next month.

out of all the lenses i have.. i picked the 60mm as the best all around lens to use. it's not just for taking close up macro shots. you can definitely take pics of ppl, scenes, etc with it.

example pics here

http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...d.php?t=243042

as for whether it would have best served if taken with it in your Nick Fury statue pics then i would say no because honestly it's the photographer that takes the pics and the lens is just the tool. learn the characteristics, learn the techniques.. then you'll learn to take good pics with ANY lens you use. as you advance you'll take on new specifics as to how you can improve shots with whatever is available to you. besides, you'll appreciate it more.
