Overall this ended up being a very good convention for art pickups and signings, although there were serious problems with crowding due to the convention organisers completely underestimating the number of people likely to attend with two marquee guests present (Stan Lee and Patrick Stewart). Although the Sunday seemed to run a bit smoother, particularly for those with special passes.
First cab off the ranks in terms of artists was Francis Manapul, who I obtained an Etrigan head sketch from. Given the amount of room left on the page, I figured that this would be the perfect opportunity for my first jam piece, so I asked Paul Mason to add another character from Demon Knights, and he obliged with Vandal Savage. That leaves one large spot left, which I will try and fill with Al Jabr, and leave the female characters to fill another page.
After setting up an Oracle sketch with Nicola Scott for my wife, next was Agnes Garbowska, with whom I had set up two commissions prior to the convention. Apparently she had some strange looks from the airline steward whilst drawing the Etrigan on the plane trip over.
I also set up another smaller piece with her for my son, to accompany a piece previously organised with another artist:
I then picked up one part of the accompanying piece from Jon Sommariva. This was arranged as part of supporting Jon's next sketchbook through Indiegogo. A smaller coloured version of the piece will be supplied as a one-off print at a later date.
Paul Mason was next, and I picked up a commission arranged prior to the con and spoke to him about the jam contribution mentioned previously.
Then it was off to get my photo taken with Stan Lee. Unfortunately, I didn't get the photo back in time for signing on Saturday, but was able to get that done on Sunday after picking up another token.
Most of the afternoon was spent picking up signatures. Two from Jason Momoa (one for me on a print by Stewart mcKenny, and one for a friend back home who has him on her 'fridge list'), one from Patrick Stewart and one from Stan Lee, which I ended up getting on a print by J. Scott Campbell.
