Weight doesn't impact shipping cost as much as volume does. I just call it what it is, it's cost-cutting with none of the savings passed on to the customer.
A broken leg out of the box could have been prevented with a 2x cast. Filler polystone chunks doesn't make the structure any stronger. It's just cheaper, and makes it "feel" more expensive.

If you think it'll be less than 2x as heavy fine, I didn't break mine so can't comment. But I don't think making it a full cast would have stopped damage. As extreme damage? Sure. Damage at all? No, something that broke that would have caused damage enough that it would have been the same end result of having to get a replacement.

He's still on it. Waitlist on SS site is now officially "full," and with people smashing theirs and getting reserve pieces, I told him not to hold his breath.
