Having never read the book, i wonder which film is closer to the book?
I never read the book myself so I don't know if the differences CBR is referencing are true.

From my research this 2017 movie is closer to the book. But as mentioned I haven't read the book or watched the original so I am just taking the word of others. I watched this movie last Friday and I can't believe how much it stayed with me. It has had a lasting effect and I keep thinking about the movie as a whole. I will definitely be purchasing this when it comes out and watching over a few times. I would LOVE to se some behind the scenes featurettes.

my only gripe with the new movie (without having seen it yet) is I dont really like how the new actor looks as IT, and I dont really like the new makeup, I much prefer the Tim Curry version based solely on appearance

Overall, I still prefer Tim Curry's Pennwise, that voice!
But both are great! Can't wait for Part II!
Yes, the spider is in the book.

What's hard to explain is that his "true form" is unable to be understood by the human mind -- the closest related thing happens to be a spider. I always thought it was because King knows people are terrified of spiders too (I am!).

Spiders are closest to the "true form", which is why it occurs after the clown.

Another tie in is that Pennywise is a henchman of Randall Flagg. THE Randall Flagg from The Stand. This is brought up in the Dark Tower books. Which HIGHLY recommend reading. They are GREAT. The movie IT glosses over the supernatural points of the book, which is fine by me. As a reader of the King universe I know how it all ties into the realm (aka dark tower), I just want a good movie.

The way that IT moves in this movie is what is so unsettling. And the voice.

Dropped my 3 kids off to see this last weekend (24, 17, 15) & I can honestly say that never have I heard the 3 of them agree more on a movie. They loved this. I've now been told that I have to take them all back & see it w/ them. No arguing ... I now have to see It.

Since we're talking book spoilers, pre-teen orgy replaced with a group hug. Smart move
