I voted fo rthe binkini version in the interest of differentiating the set from the current in costume offerings. This is a setting for the softer sexier side of the superheroines. I personally hate when they constantly "sex kitten" up the female superheroes in their "working clothes."

Hmm. Got a point there. They might look too civillian without their costumes or a swimsuit in the style of their costumes.
But, perhaps, if we made them display some of their powers, it would be more recognizable.
Example. Invisible Woman would just be a blonde in a normal swimsuit.
But if part of the statue shows her arms or legs turning invisible(ala transparent resin), then it would not be that unrecognizable.
Or Psylocke manifesting her psi-blade while in a swimsuit.
Something like that.

I like what iceprince_x said, keep it close to their outfits but give that old style look to them. Would be something different and fun.

How about having them on beach themed bases in poses that could be put together for the statues to form a theme like a volleyball game for instance. You could even throw a few guys in like Beast for example, or wolverine with a beachball deflated on his claws and a sour look on his face. There are a lot of fun poses and comedy styles you could use.
