Photographing Paint Ups

Okay guys ... I want to learn ...

What do the masters here use to photograph the pieces they paint, so that they show up as well as they can in pictures?

Phototent?

Special Flash?

Special Camera?

Special camera settings?

What are your secrets oh wise mages!?!?!?!

If someone could take a pic of thier set up that would be AWESOME!

im no photo expert (worst subject in college) but i use a Photo Studio-in-a-Box. They are cheap like $70 and folds up to store away till ya want to use it.

I use a Panasonic Lumix 10.1-Megapixel Digital Camera . I just try to take my pictures using sunlight into my room on weekends. I can never get good lighting during the night with how dark my apartment is. I use manual settings on my camera to get decent pictures. I am sure that cheap light box i use isnt the best thing out there and i would create my own using online guides. But i just dont have the room to do so.

I like natural sunlight to take all my pics, which is why during the day seems to give me better pictures with my set up.

This is true. I made my own light box & although I think my pics look better the light bulbs I use just aren't bright enough. I now use 60 watt natural light bulbs for the bottom left & right & use 100 watt bulb for the top.

For those that dont have light boxes and sorta crapy cameras. A simple way to take fast decent pics is outside on a sunny day in the shade. Its what i used to do for my oil paintings after college since they were so big for indoors.

That looks like a nice setup. I guess a macro lense would also help for closeups.

The best pictures that I have seen here are the ones that was taken using Cannon Rebel XTi. It is a digital SLR camera. All of the great pictures that you have seen in this forum, I believe almost all are taken with SLR cameras.
