Giving the Phoenix Force to one the Avengers?

I was doing my comic order and saw that in the new year there is an Avenger storyline where the Phoenix Force is picking a new host. Shock of shocks, it's an Avengers book.

I want to give Jason Aaron a chance because I like his writing, but to me - Phoenix and the Force will always be (and should remain) within the X-Men realm.

Maybe that is what comes to fruition at the end of this arc, but I have my doubts.

Thoughts?

Hickman's X-Men run is still fun for me. Its was some dark times for us X-Men fans, but it's fun again. Not as rich as it was back in the day, but it's good to have them back.

But yes, it's not the same as before. I'm not sure if we've just grown past them or there isn't as much thought given. Aaron and Hickman are good writers though.

I have to say I have been enjoying Jason Aaron's Avengers alot. It has a very old school feel - along the lines of Buisek, Shooter, Stern, Englehart, etc. It has pretty much has had the same line up for the past 30 plus issues with some arcs bringing in a past Avenger for a guest appearance. I have enjoyed Jason's stories as well and I believe he plans to stick around for a few more years.

I'll take your words for it. I know that there are some jewels probably in Marvel comics still, I just got tired of them jerking a lot of fans around for the last several years. I would like to return to reading new stories, there has to be universal changes first.

...but to the point of the thread. I think the Phoenix Force needs to not only be left alone for a while but keep it in the X-Men books. The Avengers are cool but they aren't the end-all, be-all.

Has anyone not been an Avengers at this point?

I don't have a problem with the Phoenix Force being used in non-X-Men titles except to say it unbalances the power structure on any team (why would you need anyone else).

Exactly Tetra! The Phoenix Force, and Hope and Jean, were some of the main concern the Avengers had going with the XMen. They always respected the mutant levels of power, but Phoenix was/is their A-bomb. To just (possibly) give it to an Avenger blows.

I was hoping water down the mutants and overpowering the Avengers would stop once Disney got all of Marvel. I hope I’m reading too much of this, but maybe not.

Phoenix force has been part of Aaron’s Avengers from early on. Namor was looking like a probable host at one point. I like what Aaron’s been doing in Avengers so I’m willing to try this before condemning it. This and Thor are the only Marvel books I pick up any more.
