Let us know how this is. I had a pretty pissed of friend abt this one especially on how phantom was characterized.
Apparently, this plays into the current Flash Gordon ongoing too !

I read the whole book last night, as it's only 5 issues and went pretty quickly. Overall, I didn't like it. The biggest problem was that it brings together an experienced Phantom and Mandrake with an inexperienced Flash Gordon, incorporating Flash's first encounter with Ming the Merciless into a story involving the other two heroes. The writing was very choppy, and I could swear that some panels omitted dialog, as the lines didn't sound right.

Art-wise, it was great. One of my biggest complaints about Dynamite is that they seem to scrape the bottom of the barrel for their artists, but I was really impressed with Marc Laming's pages. He has a style similar to Steve Epting, Michael Lark, or Lee Weeks. Very natural-looking characters and scenery.

As for The Phantom's portrayal: I thought he was okay, somewhat Dark Knight-ish. Also, there's a big surprise at the end that, while I liked it, might drive his hardcore fans up the wall. What did your friend not like about his characterization?

He said Phantom was too much of an a-hole.. and the end as you said. I didn't want it spoiled so i told him to keep it zipped. I guess i'll try it out, mostly coz I like that this plays into the flash - ming universe now.

The current flash series is amazing, highly recommend it. Really great doc shaner art!

I guess that fits my Dark Knight comparison.

I've heard good things about that series and actually grabbed Kings Watch as a lead-in to it. Now I don't know what to do...

I headed to another store yesterday that is clearing out their Dark Horse Star Wars collections, I suppose in anticipation of the license going to Marvel. I got:

Heir to The Empire signed hardcover w/ slipcase
Classic Star Wars vol.1 - Al Williamson's newspaper strips
Empire vol. 1: Betrayal
Empire vol. 2: Darklighter

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Didn't realize this trend existed. My haul for the week.

I'm really impressed with Original Sin #7. I though it was one of the best issue so far.
