Iron Man mark-LXXXV (85) Avengers Endgame

Hot Toys just put up on their website and facebook pics of an upcoming Iron Man armor from Avengers Endgame.

It confirms that the new suit is indeed going to be called the mark LXXXV (85) (as compared with the mark 50 from Infinity war seen on the right). Not too much of a difference.

What I find hilarious is I decided to cut back on my statue purchases and mostly limit myself to Hot Toys Iron Man figures about 5 years ago. I distinctly remember myself sitting in the theater watching Iron Man 3 and being shocked at the House Party Protocol reveal of about 30 new suits and dreading the damage to my wallet to come. Seems like here we go again!

Lots. Many lots. Without counting them all I'd guess about 50? (ok actually counted and 77 in one-sixth scale including the War Machines but none of the Stark figures). I probably got about 80% of em.

They went back and re-released almost all the early marks in diecast.

This is the best site I've found to track them all.

Yikes! I knew it was going to be a lot but I guess 77 is A LOT. The space required ( er and money) LOL. Think I’ll do some searching for pics of a full collection. Has my curiosity now.

Hmm. Looks like they were going with a Classic IM color scheme. Looks way better than the Infinity War suit. Wish it had a round arc reactor in the chest.

I really wish they would have tried to complete the House Party armors rather than doing multiple repaints and re-releases of the same suits.

Too bad the King Arts figures were different scale (1/9th).

These are almost 450 each? Why are figures as much as some statues?

The short answer is that they still sell at those prices.

The introduction of using more die-cast materials certainly adds to the overall cost of the figures. I recall the figures jumped from about $200 to $300 when the first die-cast figures were introduced.

The movie does not address why suit versions go from Mark 50 to 85 with no versions in between shown. Plus the Mk85 did not seem to do anything much different than the Mk 50. They could have easily just called it the Mk 51.

I've got to remember not to include movie spoilers in this thread.

My thinking is that there was at some point in the draft of the story we see Tony enter "the garage" and we get a shot of a new Hall of armors. Tony knew the Mark 50 was no match for Thanos. It stands to reason he had a period where he was coming up with new designs.

As for the Mark 85 not being in any significant way more powerful than the Mark 50, the Mark 85 does seem more durable than the older version. I'd also say the Mark 50 was already just about as good a suit as Tony Stark could create given his level of science and technology. While he might be able to get a small increase in capabilities from model to model, there would be no revolutionary and exponential gains.

For example, the solid nano-material shield is replaced by a fashionable and functional energy shield.
