I wasn't overly impressed with the mini-series leading up to Annihilation, but its been a fun read so far.
Was Annihilus always this powerful? I would never have put him on Thanos' level.

By the way, can anyone fill me in on when/how the Silver Surfer had his power reduced (which is what I assume from his recent power elevation to its "original" power level by Galactus)?

When he was punished after FF50 and trapped on earth, Galactus reduced his powers as well. I think he said this in the Annihilation SS mini.

This sounds like revisionist history to me. I didn't think his power was reduced, only that he lost his ability to get out into space due to the barrier.

Well, there is mention of the Surfers power levels in the Official Marvel Handbooks from the 80s, though it's in reference to when Reed Richards drained his power with the Sonic Shark missle. It basically says that after the Surfer was drained, he slowly regained his powers, though it's not known if they were at the same level as when he was the Herald of Galactus. So, there is some reference to his powers possibly being reduced while on earth at least.
