Orson Welles' film of the rise and fall of a prominent American family in the early 20th century. The film is cinematic excellence up until the last 5 minutes with a rushed and awkward conclusion. Apparently, the original ending was depressing, and audiences wouldn't want that during WWII, so the studio waited until Welles was out of the country, cut 50 minutes, and gave it a "happy" ending. Well, that happy ending was absolute crap, and of course, the cut footage was destroyed.

Someone should reshoot the original ending, assuming the script/premise of it is still widely known (I didn't bother to check) and toss it on Youtube or some other such on-line venue.
Would be a treat, I'm sure..as it is, I'm going to track this movie down asap and watch it, crap ending or not; thanks for the review.
