OK, so WTF is eBaY's shipping deal?

I just listed a 1 year lot of magazines that weigh well over 5 lbs and the most they will let me charge for shipping is $5.00.

Sheesh.. even media mail will cost more for that weight.

You should use the Postal Calculator option when listing your items, it's much better then just listing a set shipping price and you can even add a handling fee that'll show up in the shipping amount unknown to the bidder.

I tried that and no matter what zip code I put in it said $3.94 for the weight.

I don't want to take the chance of it costing more at time of shipping, so I just went with $5.00 and upped the start price of the auction.

They must only do that with certain categories because I use the shipping calculator all the time and have never had a problem.

I know in some categories listing an item is more expensive and if you're not paying attention and don't uncheck certain boxes Ebay can trick you into buying a complete photo package with your listing.

That happened to me in this listing.

I haven't sold anything on ebay in a bit since it feels like I will be losing money even if I sell something.

As it's multiple items can't you use the "freight" option and then put the correct shipping charge in the description? I do this when selling bulk lots of comics.
