Here in India, at least (which is not yet a significant contributor in the big picture), Endgame has massively overperformed.

But, and this is a big 'but', the prices per ticket are almost twice the usual amount. Even in IMAX.

Did this happen in US and other markets? Did you pay the same to see Endgame as you do for other movies?

Paid the same as usual here in Canada. I wonder why the extra charges in India?

I have two theories:

1. Theatres knew this would be sold-out and they got greedy.

Or..

2. Based on the reports that Disney is demanding a higher-than-usual share of the profits (in some cases as high as 90%), they were forced to jack the prices to not lose money themselves.

John Wick 3 to take down the number 1 spot at the box office this weekend from Avengers Endgame. Half my friends are seeing it this Saturday, while I'm seeing Endgame in IMAX with the other half.

Domestic: $738M
International: $1.79B

Total Worldwide: $2.53B

$2.6B worldwide by end of Sunday seems likely.

Avengers Endgame passes Avatar for second place domestic record. Not a bad weekend considering how strong John Wick 3 performed.

Now the long, slow climb to Avatar's worldwide box office record of $2.79B.

Domestic: $770M estimated
International: $1.84B estimated

Total Worldwide: $2.61B estimated

Domestic: $771,368,375 29.5%
+ Foreign: $1,845,482,612 70.5%
= Worldwide: $2,616,850,987

Almost there. Another $162 mil worldwide and Endgame will beat Avatar. Another $136 mil domestic and will beat Star Wars: TFA

I believe the domestic record is now unreachable given how little Endgame can expect to make over the rest of its theatrical run. Only possibility would be a re-release at some point in the future.

My estimates for final box office numbers are:

$850M domestic
$1.95B international
$2.80B worldwide
