I think the perception of Master Jedis is one of stoic, calm, and rationale thinking monk-like figures --at least in terms of what we've seen in the OT, foundation laid by Obi-Wan and Yoda. Neither character demonstrated this moment of weakness that seems to be the antitheses of what embodies a Jedi Master. So surely you can understand why this goes against the grain of everything we've seen, especially in Luke.

The difference here is that his father was lead astray by Palpatine, whereas with Luke he was of no nefarious influence other than his own solitary choices. Snoke had no power over Luke since he was unaware of his location.
