im not sure the size has anything to do with it really. most cons really run themselves as far as the size goes. i notice issues pop up when you add big names and try to organize events (signings, panels, etc). the check in and goodie bag at AACC was the worst. having to check back a number of times because they kept running out of stuff was ridiculous. they didn't have the correct badges and at one point just seemed to be handing out different stuff to everyone. the LV show looks like bigger names will be there, hopefully they'll all show up and things will run smoother.
