Even though sweden is very close to denmark and the language are simular in some ways I don't understand all swedish.

i speak enough to get by and travel - my mom speaks danish and she says it has similarities but not the same - pity

Yeah there definetly not the same language although alot of danes and swedes understand each other without even having learned each others languages.

A word like patato is totaly different.

Patato in sweden is Potartis in Denmark it's Kartoffel.

What is swedish meat ball's called in sweden? In Denmark they are called frikadeller and is considered a danish meal.
