very interesting.

Not the norm in the NBA, usually the team with the best record gets to the finals.

Don't think it that uncommon in MLB.

Very common in the NHL - having the best regular season record is like having the SI jinx ... never works out.

I would imagine that this is not common to have all 3 major sports not make the finals (best record team) in a season ...

2006 is turning out to be a very good year for Detroit.

The Detroit Tigers are leading the league with a record of 55-26. If they do as well in the second half as they did in the first half, they'll end up with the best record in baseball.

This would result in one city (Detroit) having the winningest (sp) teams in three major league sports: baseball, basketball and hockey.

If Detroit has a team with the best record in three different major sports and does not get a championship ring (or even get to the finals) does not equate to a very good year IMO

I agree, winning a lot of games without wining the championship is pretty sad. On a more positive note, a couple of those Detroit teams (the Pistons and the Red Wings) have won titles in recent years, so it's not like they're perennial "also rans". As a fan, it's nice to go to a game and see your team win.

good point ... I think you could consider the Tigers season a success if they win a lot of games and don't win the WS ... Pistons and Red Wings on the other hand

You are right - better to be winning more games than you are losing as a fan
