Do you carry insurance on your collection?
I know that most homeowners insurance companies have limits on certain categories such as collectables, jewelry, sporting goods etc.
I was wondering if many of you collectors have looked into your limits and have considered getting an insurance rider to cover the cost of replacing a large collection?
Seems to me with the fragile nature of statues and artwork it would be a smart thing to cover loss, damage or theft.....Especially when you consider all the natural disasters, home fires, thefts and even kids..

I have not looked into it, but I really should with all the comic books, artwork, figures and statues I have amassed over the years.

There was a thread on this a while back.
http://www.statueforum.com/showthrea...tion+insurance
Collect insure seemed to be a popular choice. I was planning on this when my collection reached the insuring value point.

Sorry I didn't see the earlier thread when I did a search. I had not thought of a separate collector's insurance policy, I have always gotten a rider through my standard homeowner's insurance co.
It is surprising to see how quickly a collector can exceed the limits of standard insurance and may not even know it...

I use collect insure. I have $30k insurance which doesn’t cover all my collection but I feel a total loss most likely won’t happen and my home owners will cover a complete loss with property loss. It covers breakage, which I have had 3 claims and each one was covered 100%. The $30k costs a tad over $200/yr.

Specialty insurance is your best bet if it is available. I think that Collect Insure is specific to the States. Elsewhere (like Canada) all we can really do is add a Personal Article Floater to our homeowner/renter insurance. There is no limit and it is insured to value but the limitations are in what perils the collectibles are insured for.

So around $16.67 a month. That isn't bad. I have a storage unit with statues I can't display at the moment and I am paying roughly that for $10,000 worth of coverage. I might have to look into this.

My renter's insurance only covers $2500 of collectables so I did get insurance for my statues, artwork and comics. I paid $233 a year and have either $40,000 or $45,000 worth of insurance on my collectables.
