Mr. Perez still has approximately a month and a half left for the piece to be considered ON TIME. A refund would not even be open to request until the beginning of next year as he is still within your promised minimum deadline. Until we are past the end of 2009 and into 2010, a refund is not an option. I am not making ANY promises of ANYTHING related to a refund or exact date of completion until the December 31st ORIGINAL estimated deadline comes and goes. I EXPECT the commission to be completed by December 31.2009, but am NOT making ANY promises as it is not in my control."

Hello my friends,

First of all, I just want to THANK all my fans who have ordered the
private commissions for their seemingly boundless patience regarding
the far longer than expected waits for their illustrations. Quite a
number of circumstances have frustrated me in my endeavors to keep up
with my heavy workload and I think I've finally found the clearing at
the end of the tunnel.

One of my biggest problems has been conceding that I can't draw as
fast as I used to and that cover-quality pieces that once took me
about 3 days each now take close to 3 times that amount of time.
Thankfully, everyone who has received their commissions ...
( especially those that ordered one of the finished pencil and inked
pieces ) have expressed their appreciation of the amount of effort
that I put into the finished product and considered the wait
worthwhile. I want to make sure that everyone on the list gets the
same feeling of expectations being fulfilled or surpassed.

However, with all the money that has been advanced me -- and let me
say that the number of orders I received through Spencer Beck's
efforts was incredibly flattering and overwhelming and that money got
me and my family through a very rough patch, for which I shall be
eternally grateful-- I know that the waiting game can only last so long.

My INTENTIONS are ( in addition to the pencil and pencil & tonal wash pieces )
is to finish up at least two of the cover-quality commissions
a month until the list is finished. While I know that for some of you
the wait will still be a long one -- I believe I have about 25 such finished
commissions (many incredibly complex)-- I want to assure you that I
will make every effort to create a showpiece that will make the money
and waiting time justifiable.

It's not easy admitting to oneself that you're not the young speedy
buck you once were, but at least I can produce better quality work
than I could when I was a mere lad. I hope that your faith in me
hasn't been too compromised and that you will all give me the chance
to prove myself worthy of it.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding,

I wish you all a safe, happy and healthy holiday season.

George Pérez
Honestly I totally understand your frustrations, but if I had the money to afford one of the Perez commissions I wouldn't mind a couple months wait after seeing the quality of stuff he is doing. That being said, I don't have the money for one and will not have to wait for it. I hope that by the time you get it, you haven't developed ill will towards it.

I am amazed at the stark differences in the tones of these emails.

So if he can stay true to this, the last person paid in 2009 and will get it sometime in 2011. I'm so thankful I got both of mine..

interest free loan . . . .

sucks that George was not able to complete in time as he is the nicest person and apparently needed the money; however, if I had paid $5k or so, I would be a little miffed

I'm sure they could refund 1 or 2. But if everyone asked for a refund they would be in trouble. But if history is any indicator comic art fans will wait years.:tounge:

What about the possiblity of someone "buying out" another person's comission? if there was someone who wasn't willing to wait, could another person but that commission from him (if George hasn't started the work yet); contact Spencer for the change in contact person and the subject of the commission.....This way George or Spencer don't loose any money or have to refund anyone.

I might be interested in that depending on the cost of the commission

That sounds like a real good idea. I'd be interested too depending on the cost too
