MK, while the characters are nice and detailed, they love to show off the world and the environment. I mean you even can interact with props / section of the levels. The levels have just as much "character" as the characters themselves. Look at SF tournaments. They had to make a rule to stop the players from picking the training/plain stage all the time.
The bases of MK lend to this by bring more of the character through with their environment, background, setting, etc...

Yeah, this is a case where more realism isn't necessarily better. If PCS remade Akuma in that level of detail, Im sure I'll like it over the Tekken model.
