My attempt to bring (good) comics back to the younger generation

I have begun a "Talking Comics with Big Ryan" event at my local library where people can bring their children to check out hundreds of different comics and I'm there to answer questions, give info or even just to look cool.

The local paper was good enough to come take pics of the event. I'm doing this every last Saturday of the month

The librarian had wanted to do something with comics but had no idea what - and then I offered up this idea and she was all psyched. Mostly because I do all the work . But it is a lot of fun - these kids all know the characters but have never picked up a comic book - so this was a thrill to me to introduce some of my favorite stories to them

Thanks guys. Will be doing the second session tomorrow. It's just nice to talk to kids who have a real interest in comics but have yet to pick one up!

You know, back in the 70's when I 1st started reading comics as a kid, I remember my Dad saying to my Mom, & later to me ... "I don't care what he's reading, or if he's reading comics, I just want him reading."

Comics became my gateway to reading. If you're ever questioned by a well-meaning parent or chaperone at the library, you may want to impart that thought. Comic reading gets the gears turning.
