10 Most Anticipated Films
I found myself watching “Man of Steel” (again) and wondered whether I had ever experienced more visceral anticipation/excitement for a film to open in the theater...and I concluded, “Nope.” From it being announced, to the three trailers, its opening day could not arrive soon enough.
So, after about ten minutes, I came up with my ten most anticipated movies ever over the course of my near fifty years.
10. Heat
9. Aliens
8. Terminator 2: Judgment Day
7. Indiana Jones: Temple of Doom
6. The Avengers
5. Phantom Menace
4. Jurassic Park
3. Empire Strikes Back
2. Return of the Jedi
1. Man of Steel
I’m certain I’ve overlooked a couple. Yours?

4.) Superman (1978)
5.) Star Trek: The Motion Picture
6.) John Wick 2
7.) Batman (1989)

unfortunately I was born 2 years after ROTJ came out so I didnt get to experience any of the Star Wars hysteria of the original movies, but I was prime age for the prequels, and my hype was through the roof for those because my first exposure to Star Wars was with the theatrical re-releases of the OT before Phantom Menace came out, so I became obsessed with the OT right in time for the PT to start
in order starting with most hype:
1) Return of the King (it was the extended edition I couldnt wait for, I was counting the days. The Saruman scenes being added back in made it worth it)
2) Phantom Menace (this movie hit me right after getting addicted to the OT, double whammy)
3) Revenge of the Sith (huge hype to finally see Anakin fall to the dark side)
4) Avengers: Infinity War (huge buildup, and Infinity Gauntlet was one of my all time favourite comics)
5) Attack of the Clones (excited for the trilogy to continue)
6) X-men: Days of future past (one of my favorite X-men stories, and probably still my favorite X-men movie)
7) The Two Towers (after the amazing FOTR, I couldnt wait. FOTR not on this list as I didn't know about it until it came out so I couldnt anticipate it)
8) Raimi's Spider-man 3 (I was really excited for Venom and Sandman.......Sandman was good at least, cast perfectly IMO, but could have done better with his powers and backstory)
9) Avengers: Endgame (excited to see how this would be after how amazing Infinity Wars was, in the back of my mind I knew it would never live up to Infinity War, and IMO I was correct)
10) The Force Awakens (was excited for the endless possibilities of a new Star Wars trilogy...saw the movie and all hype died instantly, biggest wasted potential in the history of cinema)

I wanted to include this one, but I'd just be lying to myself. I had no hype whatsoever before release because I thought Heath was the worst casting ever for the Joker. My insane hype only came around after I saw the movie and realised Heath is hands down the best Joker ever to grace the screen, now its one of my most hype movies of all time, mainly because of Heath, and the intelligent writing

Nothing will come close to Phantom Menace in terms of anticipation. Back in 1999 Star Wars was revered (even called flawless) among me and fellow nerdy friends. I think about being excited for movies now (such as Dune) and I just don't think I can recapture that youthful optimism and exuberance.

I agree the anticipation for Phantom Menace was through the roof but unfortunately it was a pretty big let down... Jar Jar and really flat acting hurt the film...
