casting and molding questions

Hello guys, I'm making my first statue now in chavant,
I'm planning to cast it in resin, but I'm not really sure which products to buy, or how expensive it will be

so my questions are:
1. How much resin do I need to cast 1/4 scale statue?

2. What kind of resin&silicone mold do I need to make one?

3. How expensive it will be to cast a 1/4, 1/6 statue with said product?

thank you!

The question is too subjective. The best way to determine volume is to put it in water and measure the displacement.

Generally your first casting will cost you about 2-3 times what that same casting will cost once you have experience...there are so many different places to mess up.

My advice would be to go/call someplace like Smooth-On and ask their advice. They make many different casting and molding products and can steer you to the correct combination of each material. Their site is a wealth of information as well.

thats a good info! probably I'll just try molding a smaller figure and from then determine the best way to mold a 1/4 figure (which I think will cost me about 300 with smooth on)

thanks for your advice

One thing you might want to keep in mind is that with chavant you will have to make a mold of a malleable medium. I use Sculpey for smaller sculpts so I don't have to worry about damaging the sculpture while making a mold.
