White Whales

Who are your white whales? For the sake of this post, let's say they are artists that you'd love to get a commission or sketch from (who you don't already own a published piece, commission or sketch), but due to some circumstance (i.e., rarely do cons, too pricey, don't really sketch anymore), you are unlikely to ever get anything from them. Here are mine:

J. Scott Campbell - too pricey for one of his commissions (not sure he even takes these commissions anymore)
Frank Cho - finally seems more open to taking commissions, but got a little too pricey for my budget
Russell Dauterman - doesn't seem like he does many cons, commission list is closed
Chris Bachalo - doesn't seem to do many cons (at least on the East Coast), commission list closed for years
Josh Middleton - rarely seems to do cons anymore, not taking at home commissions
Joe Madureira - I don't think he does commissions, period. Sketches, rarely
Steve McNiven - doesn't do at-home commissions, does few sketches/commissions at cons anymore (if any) AND is expensive at this point
Leinil Francis Yu - see McNiven
Mark Brooks - see McNiven

I can probably think of a few more...

Art Adams - thought I had caught this white whale at Heroes a couple years back. Got there at 5am, 3rd in line, got on his list, he approved my idea. Then he didn't get it done at the show and I haven't had any luck trying to follow up.

Todd McFarlane - doesn't do commissions and would likely cost too much if he did

Mike Deodato - too expensive

Bermejo - too expensive (not sure he even does them anymore)

Good thread. I was able scratch my Art Adams and Mark Brooks off my list over the last few years. There are actually more artists I want more commissions from then wanting my first from but I'll save that for another thread. Off the top of my head I still want something from:

Never say never though, I crossed a few off my list last year. I managed to get Mark Bagley and Siya Oum at NYCC last year which I am really really happy with!

I would be quite pleased to get another Phil Noto, Ben Caldwell, or David Yardin piece again this year. They would all be cheaper and easier to get than anyone on that list up there!
