Dude, to me that's still about 130-140 too many!
Seriously, when I read X-men for the first time, (mid-80's) only a handful characters where mutants, and frankly, I preferred it that way...
I haven't read any X-title in about 10 years, and I can't say I miss it. Jean Grey dead, Scott switching over to Emma that quickly, Wolverine becomes even more invincible and is used in almost every damn title; everything sucks to me. The only thing that I enjoyed lately, was that the Hulk defeated Wolvie in WW Hulk, and that the Beast left the X-men, and returned to the Avengers...
I wish they would just do a complete overhaul, like they did when they introduced Wolvie, Storm, Kurt, and Pjotr...
I hear ya Pete, I do, but I'll give Marvel credit in the sense that they did recognize and acknowledge that the 90's created a mutant problem that needed to be addressed. The 198 storyline culled the number of powered up mutants and since then I'd speculate we have dropped to around 130-140, which by comparison, is a TON less than we had when there was closer to 2000 known mutants at writers disposal plus the easy option to just create any other lame mutant of the month.

Well it looks like Marvel is trying to fix the problem:

http://www.newsarama.com/comics/x-me...ed-110214.html

It appears none of the main X-titles (Uncanny, Legacy, and New Mutants) but this will be shipping in May....of course I am sure there will be 10 Wolverine titles on the shelf.

"what you knew about the X-Men changes here."

maybe they could stop with this exact same tag line every time they start another "age of futures past series"
