Thank you, yes, I was very fortunate in working with Clayburn on the toy, he's a master talent whom I have a great deal of respect for. Working with Weta on the unreleased piece was also a thrill, because you have to remember -- I'm just a fan as well, and it amazes me what these artists can do. Both of those pieces we were aware of as being examples of the highest caliber, so I think that helped pushed Jerry to show just what artistic muscles he can flex in the same arena. And what he achieved is pretty damn exciting. I'm completely biased of course, but I think it has to easily be his best female sculpture, and (bias again) perhaps the best he's done ever? I told him that I wanted him to do the piece that he could look at 10 years from now and go "Yeah, that's still extremely cool."
There were at least 3 other times where a full figure statue was due to be released and for business and life reasons the stars did not align. Other comic characters like Dawn, Lady Death, Shi, Witchblade, Darkness, et. al, have been fortunate to have multiple releases, so I think there is some benefit and real value in having this be Ariel's first offering.
So -- wow -- 3 pages already just off the line art!
Many thanks to everyone whose posted for the warm welcome. It's not something I take for granted, and is greatly, greatly appreciated.
I'm going to have some coffee now and hassle Jerry to get on here and help me make some noise...
