The key word is “momentarily”.

IMO, it's Steve Rogers who is Captain America. Not Bucky, especially not Sam. We all saw how well the Sam as Cap thing played out in the comics. I can see Sam as the leader of the Avengers, but he is the Falcon. He doesn't need a star on his chest to make him more important. If we need someone with stars on them to lead the Avengers, let Captain Marvel do it (she's done it before) and if Evans leaves after Avengers 4...just don't have Cap anymore.

You know, sometimes when you post stuff like that I get this picture in my head of a 85 year old man on a rocking chair somewhere in the Southern United states with chew in his mouth yelling at kids to "Get offf muh lawn!!!"

Close, minus 36 yrs, the rocking chair and chew.
Honestly though, I wouldn't have an issue with so much because it follows the source material. Now, the source material's intent at the time is another debate.

I would actually say that Iron Man is the heart of the Avengers franchise.
I think if the actors retire, the character should retire, let the next group of heroes step up, then maybe bring them all back for some big finale against Galactus and end it.
Reboot a few years later.

Interesting observation. I think I agree with you on this point. His time in the lab with Banner, trying to put a suit of armor around the world, as they unwittingly unleashed Ultron on the world was a narcissist fest to the max. And, Stark's snakiness was grating in that film.

Cap has been the heart of the MCU, and the Avengers movies in general, and I can't see anyone filling those shoes, much as I would like to see Sebastian Stan take up the mantle.

And I think that if the Hulk were to say why, it'd be [that] Banner only wants Hulk for fighting. I think he's had enough of saving Banner's ass.
