Hurricane Irma
To all my fellow Florida collectors, be safe, if you're evacuating do so as quick as you can and be safe on the roads.. If you don't hear from me next week I'm probably without power...or I've been blown to Oz.

Looks like its going to be a nasty one. We have a lot of family in Florida, mostly around the Clearwater Beach area. They all left this morning and are moving inland another 20-30 miles. We should hear from them tonight and find out exactly where their at.
Here are some amazing pictures that show just how defined the eye really is.
And here is an amazing picture that shows the gravity waves from the storm.
Its basically equivelant to dropping a huge boulder into a calm pond.

WwWWEEEEEeeeee
My statues and I are going swimming.
Luckily I am in central florida, so other than leaving north, I am about as safe as I can get from coastal waters.
Where-abouts are you at in FL, Josh?

I just sent my nephew some money western Union to get out with his girlfriend and new baby. I was looking at photos of St Marten and Puerto Rico and it doesn't look good at all.
Stay safe everyone in FLA

Been prepping all week. It's chaotic out there. So far the plan is to stay but if that thing gets too close and it's still around a Cat 4 we are bouncing.

Will you even be able to make it out by then? I would imagine the roadways would still be congested and you don't want to be on the road when this thing hits.

Nah, I'm not waiting until the last minute. Will decide by tomorrow morning/afternoon. It might not be easy getting out but we should be fine. I know a lot of people staying regardless of it's path.
Btw, how did you fare? I see you're in Houston. Everything ok?

If you don't evacuate with ample time to spare, you actually wind up putting yourself at more risk by leaving as you can wind up with just huge traffic jams and you risk being out in your car when it hits as opposed to the safety of your home. Thats why they didn't evacuate a lot of people from Texas as you just can't evacuate 2 million+ people in just 2 days. Better to just stay at home at that point and try and ride it out than be out in the open in a car.
