Wanna talk about "Oldies", Jazz, Instrumental . . .

We use to have a few great "oldies" stations here in NY Metro area. Now there are none. Unless you have Sirius or XM. The concerts are few & in between. Even the Heavy Metal groups from the 70's aren't around that much. The Jazz stations play new jazz, nothing old or classic. And the Instrumental or classics stations are totally gone or on some god forsaken static filled dial #.

70s "metal" groups get lots of play... what are you considering to be old jazz/intrumental?

From the 50's and early 60's. You know like great background movie soundtracks and jazz bar music from N.O., Chicago, Harlem, & lower NYC.

You should check out Mulatu Astatqe. Part of his stuff was featured in the film "Broken Flowers". It's more "Ethio-jazz" but some amazing stuff. I recommend Ethiopiques Vol. 4 which is alot of his music from like late 60s to mid 70s.

I have quite a collection of "Big Band" jazz from the 40's and 50's which are cool to listen to from time to time. I agree that the selection of music on popular radio is now very limited with "middle of the road" singer/songwriters not standing a chance IMO. Its unlikely that we will have another Bob Dylan anytime soon as his songs wouldn't get airplay.

True, but it doesn't give you that same deep down, enjoyable sad feeling, that moodyness.
Broken Flowers did have a nice soundtrack.
I guess I just miss the old piano bars/night clubs.
There was a place on East 18th or 19th, if you hit it right, Woody Allen would come in and do a set on his sax. Saw him once, I'll never forget it.

Some of that music is fantastic, I play it in my car. Never really got into Dylan. The kids today don't even understand what he is saying. Basically I really didn't understand what he was saying.
