The online reaction to this game so far is negative, to say the least. Don't think anyone expected the next Metal Gear game to be a four-player co-op survival shooter set in an alternate reality.

I don't get the hate. When Metal Gear Revengeance first debuted it was greeted with a luke warm reception because it was a spin off, and ultimately became one of the best overall games last gen and accepted by the MGS community. This is almost exactly the same case with this game and yet the torches and pitchforks are out already.
It never ceases to amaze me what the masses are willing to accept and not accept when it comes to entertainment. A movie trailer can be complete trash and the "wait and see" brigade is out in full force. A video game trailer on the other hand gets absolutely no leeway whatsoever.

Yeah, if there's one thing you can rely on it's fanboy rage when a new instalment in a gaming series changes things up. Whilst the new direction was definitely surprising I don't think it warrants the death knell after one trailer. No one's even played it yet. Like you say, though, it's always the same.

I like Metal Gear, but thought this looks kind of stupid.
Maybe I am still MGS-out from Phantom Pain. I'm just not ready for more MGS.

How is Phantom Pain? I bought it but never played it. I did watch a long Youtube video of the cutscenes and it looks like a good game.

It was good, then it was great, then I was just happy to beat it. It got a little repetitive for my liking. I'm kind of like that with most games though, I am really into them... until I'm not.

Still playing the Phantom Pain. For me, this is where Metal Gear Solid ends. Without Hideo Kojima, there is no Metal Gear Solid.
Konami screwed up Silent Hill, and it now appears they want to screw up Metal Gear Solid. Pitty for a company that was once at the top of their game.
