Many artists have different levels of quality pieces they do at shows. Should a fan who chooses a $50 option be upset that someone else's piece is more detailed because that fan chose a higher priced option?
I know this isn't exactly the same thing, I just think it would have been decent for Adam to do something to show some sort of appreciation that this guy paid $3000 for a convention piece.
Just my opinion. :-)

The acknowledgment that the fan receives for dishing out a ton of cash is they actually get the character they ask for

I'm not being critical of folks who are willing to pay 3 grand for a Hughes sketch. It is something that I would never do(bear in mind that I shelled out half that for a Perez Batman). Anyone who collects art has an artist that they are willing to pay what others consider an obscene price for a piece. For me, that person was GP. For others it is use. I'm not sorry I shelled out 1500 on a Perez, and I'm sure these folks don't regret the money they paid Hughes for their sketches.

At what price should the sketch become "cover quality"? What prices would dictate the winner should be getting something on 24x30 poster board? When are two pieces warranted because the price went so high??
Adam can't set a poor precedent by "rewarding" someone for spending a certain amount of money. That will lead to more problems that anyone wants.

But I thought we established that Adam has done LESS for James this time. Didn't we agree that in the past Adam has done more detailed sketches with humor and all for less money?
True, Adam doesn't have to go beyond. But it would be a nice hook up. But to do less is just.. whatever
More for less is ALWAYS good for the customer. Adam went backwards with this one.

Also, I am willing to bet if Adam approached James at the Ohio Con and said, "Lemme give something a lil more. I appreciate your support and this is my thanks."
Do you thinks James will say, "No, I got what I aksed for in San Diego. Its nice but no thanks."
If I paid $3000 for a AH! piece, I would request a sketch of me with Wonder Woman hugging me from behind with her boobs on my head! I wanna have Mickey Mouse ears.. That would be nice!
