funny you started this because i just started really watching his movies. i bought a 3 disc box set at Sam's. watched "true grit" and el rio(?something like that) and will get the sideshow john wayne pf. i bought the movies because i wanted to see them to see what character the pf was based on and really liked it("true grit"). it didn't have cg or superb acting(aside from john) and the action/fights were kind of corny but i enjoyed them. it was a nice escape from today's cg/fast paced movies. after i watch the 3 i bought i'm going to get more.

btw i am at home on a sat. to drink beer/watch showtime and hbo boxing/read some forums and play some 360 and i am enjoying it.

John Wayne is an American Icon. He still rocks today.
Rio Lobo, The Green Berets, Brannigan, True Grit, Flying Tigers, and THE QUITE MAN.
Plus about 20 or 30 more.

I was thinking earlier today about John Wayne (American Hero).
My mom is a big fan of the Duke.
Think I'll be getting her the John Wayne card set for Xmas.
This thread should have stayed in the Bowen section, because I'd love to get a Bowen John Wayne bust and statue. For my mom and for myself.
Something more affordable than Sideshow, and lettle larger than gose mail order ones that are around.

I like john wayne but i the irony is that he portrays these war heroes and never made it into the army himself, unlike Jimmy Stewart, Charlton Heston (8th Air Army) and others i've probably forgotten.

Still he did some GREAT films - Searchers

I see no problem with that (I retired from the Army in 1998).

You forgot his greatest film "The Searchers". Ford + Wayne = Classic.

Oh you get me ready in your 56 chevy
Why dont we go sit down in the shade
Take shelter on my front porch
The dandy lion sun scorching,
Like a glass of cold lemonade
I will do laundry if you pay all the bills

Chorus:

Where is my john wayne
Where is my prairie son
Where is my happy ending
Where have all the cowboys gone

Why dont you stay the evening
Kick back and watch the tv
And Ill fix a little something to eat
Oh I know your back hurts from working on the tractor
How do you take your coffee my sweet
I will raise the children if you pay all the bills

Chorus

I am wearing my new dress tonight
But you dont even notice me
Say our goodbyes (3 times)

We finally sold the chevy
When we had another baby
And you took that job in tennessee
You made friends at the farm
And you joined them at the bar
Almost every single day of the week

I will wash the dishes while you go have a beer
Where is my john wayne
Where is my prairie son
Where is my happy ending
Where have all the cowboys gone
Where is my marlboro man
Where is his shiny gun
Where is my lonely ranger
Where have all the cowboys gone
