I'm with you. I'm really glad we're getting some amazing comic book based movies. But I do miss the good old days when comics were "the Undiscovered Country" for almost everyone I knew, and they were my own special world.

I do miss when being a comic book geek made me unique and different. And there are plenty out there excited by and about comic book based movies who are new to them and don't know anything about the source material who need our help. It does feel pretty cool being a source of answers now rather than getting strange stares for my love of the medium.

My absolutely favourite moment in this regard was after the post credit scene in Thor. There was some type of office group behind us with two wannabe geeks "sword fighting" over the girl between them, trying to impress her with their comic knowledge.

Anyways the scene rolls and, what became known as the "tesseract" in the MCU, was shown. Both men launched into a chain of "oh, oh, oh that's, that's, that's" and "oh what is the name...." in a frantic dash to woo the lady.

After a few seconds and frustrated by the exchange my then 6-7 year old daughter turned around and very curtly said, "Seriously? That is the Red Skull's cosmic cube!" The look on the gents faces and the lady laughing at them was PRICELESS.

Needless to say ice cream was in order after my little girl dropped the mic.
