This film should have swayed all of us from the very first trailer, but that's the challenge with FOX, Singer and X-Men --trying to reinvigorate this franchise and bring a level of gravitas in the same vein as Captain America.
It should not be this difficult but I think they were smart to save Wolverine for the end.

I guess I'm a little lost here. This is the 3rd movie in the "reboot" of the X-Men Franchise. Not only have the previous ones been critical success they have been a commercial one also. Add the success of Deadpool and the last Wolverine movie being good this idea that only Disney is doing it right is actually false. First Class, DOFP, and Deadpool alone are better than most of the MCU movies. I think people have been excited for this since day one it just hasn't been rammed down our throats everywhere we turn like Civil War.All of this of course is IMHO.

Let's break down the U.S. domestic box office totals.
X-Men - $157 million
X-2 - $214 million
X-Men Last Stand - $234 million
First Class - $146 million
DoFP - $233 million
My point is that, sure these figures are decent for the reboots, but hardly the success that it's capable of becoming, especially when you look at the previous trilogy.

lets get serious here, xmen movies (that fox is planning on expanding further with new mutants, xforce, deadpool movies) are the only marvel properties that fox is making any money from, they will not be making any deals with marvel any time soon to sell the X properties back

I prefer the Fox X-Men movies to anything Marvel has done. For every Last Stand or Wolverine Origins i can name 2 or 3 marvel marvel films i didn't care for. Just my personal preference. I don't see the slightest chance X-Men are going back to marvel anytime soon.

Unlike Fantastic Four, which WILL revert back to Marvel in a few years, I don't think X-Men will leave Fox's stable anytime soon considering it makes decent money for okay films.
So I agree...if the Spidey film works out and all signs are pointing to yes, then this could set a future precedent for Fox and Marvel working in tandem.

I still think the movie is going to be pretty good. I've made my peace with the fact that Fox is holding onto the X-Men and Singer will be directing or producing, so at this point I just want them to turn out great movies. I'm looking forward to this one, will see it in the first week, and will also pick it up when it hits digital download.
Had Mystique not been played by Lawrence there is no way the character would be in charge. The lines seem much more like something written for Jackman's Wolverine, and yes I know that would blow continuity. But as I was watching the trailer I could hear easily those same lines in Jackman's voice. And speaking of Wolverine, that is the worst kept secret of the year. I was actually just thinking about that the other day, figuring there would at least be a cameo. There was no way there'd be an X-Men movie without Wolverine because the producers know that the character and Jackman get butts in seats. For Jackman it's another payday and a chance to give a taste of Wolverine 3. It will only be after that that the part will get recast.
The only thing I'm holding out hope for is that Marvel and Fox finally come to an agreement on Fantastic Four. Somehow I would not be surprised if Silver Surfer might actually be the sticking point as opposed to Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben, especially after three so-so/failed movie attempts. Marvel can make FF a hit no doubt, but bringing Silver Surfer into the cosmic universe started by GotG could be the real gem. Just imagine GoTG3 centering on Galactus as the Big Bad, and featuring the heralds Surfer, Frankie Raye Nova, Firelord and Terrax). Surfer could defect, join the Guardians and turn the tide of the battle, which would then set him up for a standalone movie or franchise.

This would be awesome! But...I want the Imperial Guard in the GOTG movies as well.

Releasing on May 27. Review embargo ends next week on May 9.
devincf: X-MEN screens Friday, review embargo is Monday. That shows confidence.
devincf: Fox is hoping to eat into the post-CIVIL WAR buzz.

Reviews and reactions seems truly mixed for this. Not many overly positive reactions nor extreme negative reactions like the ones for BvS.
Fox should have pushed the press screenings for next week instead, as many are still basking in the Civil War phase.
