I enjoyed the first one. I can't believe Smith turned this down. He turns down allot of big movies.

Smith didn't turn it down. They didn't cast him because he costs too much.

Thsi movie doesn't really need any of the past cast. Could be a whole new story line. Much like Trasnformers with out that Labeaof kid.

the difference of course being nobody ever gave a crap about the humans in transformers where as Independence Day was all about the humans. anyway my only real demand is that there be a giant statue of Randy Quaid with "UP YOURS!!!!" written on it at the newly rebuilt capitol

Exactly. I find it hard to believe they wouldn't offer this to Smith. Stupid on their part. I don't see this as a blockbuster without Big Willy in it.

I liked the first one. Saw it 2 or 3 times in the theatres. Would have preferred to see a sequel if they had made it in the late 90s or early 2000s, but not really interested in exploring a sequel story now after 20 years (1996-2016).

Still I will likely watch it if it does get made. But yeah, the main cast including Will Smith need to be back, cause along with the alien invasions action it's the characters who made the film more memorable.

The first is by far my all time favorite popcorn flick, and probably my favorite movie in general tbh. The ship designs, the creature designs, the practical effects, the atmosphere it created combined with a great cast all made it a great 2hrs. Pretty sure it is the movie I've watched more times than any other. Sure it wasn't perfect, the USA saves the day yet again (always fun for everybody else ) But it was surely never meant to be taken too seriously. I like it a lot, I just hope the sequel can live up to it. The cast list has certainly been growing of late, but it does have a few omissions...

YOu would think with all the films of his that have flopped recently that he would be more affordable.
