In a time when so many covers are either dark, gritty, or posey (not that there's anything intrinsically wrong with that as I own a few myself), this cover presented like such a breath of fresh air. It's fun, playful, joyous, and gives off this sometimes all too forgotten jovial vibe we often saw in golden and silver age covers where you didn't feel like the end of everything was cast upon us. Supergirl and Batgirl exchanging a gift-wrapped Joker and Lex Luthor. Love it.

This "What did you get me for X-mas?" cover artwork was also used as the DC Comics corporate Christmas card sent out that year. Thrilled to own it.

I don't usually post thoughts or feelings about a cover but made an exception here as it checked off many of the right boxes for me. Matt Haley is a delightful artist.

The clean, deceptive but not simple lines on this are great. Concept is top notch and makes me smile. Reminds me of something we might also see from Tom Grummett.

Joker seems very delighted to be carried around by Supergirl and being delivered to Batgirl. Lex, well, not so much.

Also, I like this inked line work better than the colored version that went to print.

I asked Matt Haley about the editorial changes requested. He said they were done digitally (i.e., Supergirl positioned slightly higher, the wreath and x-mas tree, etc.). It happens more often than fans think, especially today. Back in the day, they would have simply pasted a stat on it creating a dreadful eyesore on the artwork.
