New to forum: Sculpting on to existing Styrene parts

Hello!

This is my first post. I mainly work with Polytek Silicone rubber, their resin, some Alumilite clear, and pressure casting.

I work on small styrene injection molded parts. Thumb sized. Currently I'm using Modeling Clay by Van Aken. My goal is to added my work in a seamless way and cast it.

I either don't have the skill, or can't get a fine finish with the clay. So I end up wasting expensive silicone to make a mold then do a resin cast, which I can sand, etc, Then remold.

A lot of waste.

I was watching the CX5 videos and was thinking that may be a good material to use. But I am a bit concerned that the heat it requires may effect the Styrene.

If I want to eliminate the intermediate mold step, and get a nicely finished hybrid styrene/wax/clay model, other than CX5 what are my material options?

An example would be a hole in the back of a styrene head, that I'd need to fill and have no sign of it in my final piece.

I have some actual jewelers wax when I worked with gold. But that may be a real pain to work with.

Thanks

Hey max,

Welcome to the forum.
You could try a 2 part Apoxie compound like 'aves Apoxie sculpt' or 'magic sculpt'

When the 2 parts are mixed, you have about 4 hours working time, after that it starts to cure.
Fully cured in 24 hours, it then can be sanded to a very smooth glossy finish.

Hope that helps.
