Bringing statues across the US-CDN border
Wondering if anyone has had the pleasure of doing this before..
I'm planning on having 2 statues shipped from BBTS to NY and then driving down (from Toronto) to pick them up.
But, what kind of taxes/duty can I expect? Or is there anyway to avoid these.
They're both ~$400 Tsume pieces.

When you are at the border, make sure to provide them with the correct harmonized code for statuary art: 9703.00.00.00, otherwise you may get dinged with extra fees.

If you saw a heat wave, would you wave back?

Reading the code i thought it only applied to "original" art.
How do you go about giving the Hts codes at the border anyway?

Be sure to bring the invoice(s) for the statues. The customs agent will ask how much you paid for the statues and since you were in the states for less than 24 hours there is no free amount and the agent will give you a yellow paper to bring to the counter inside the building. When you go to the counter, they will calculate the taxes and possible custom fees and you pay it. It is here you can present the code RS was talking about. If you are lucky they will not check your package and car.
I'm not sure about this but you may want to inquire what date customs use for the exchange rate, the day you bought the statues or the date you are picking them up. With the Cdn $$ dropping every day, it is no doubt better the day you bought the statues. Maybe bring a long a copy of your credit card to show how much you did pay in Cdn $$.

Also, when you get a receipt, ask the seller not to include the shipping charge, if any, on the bill otherwise they will tax that too.

Picked the items up today. No duty, just taxes.
The HTS code worked. The cashier was happy to take it, no questions.
Thanks!
