Im in australia and was thinking of getting this as well. Although, whether it goes direct or through distribution wont it be the same price? if anything, going through a distributor adds money as they will add on their profit margin?

Difficult to say.
P1's Optimus Primal worked out cheaper through Popcultcha than it did through Sideshow thanks to the import GST.
But then, I guess both could be considered distributors so not exactly a like for like comparison to what we have here.
If you're able to take the paid in full discount then it is certainly cheaper to go through XM.

Won't know that for a little while i suspect. Considering they haven't updated the ES on many of the recent POs even before Prime...it takes a while to finalize all that.
