Gothic church. pls read in.

I have recently completed the "skeleton" of a gothic church like steeple to use as a base for my spiderman sculpt. I roughed it in with foamcore and heavy cardboard. Now my question is this. I've looked at the materials used in the construction of these churches but do not want to blow an entire box of sculpey on the rocks that make up the building. I am using this as reference

do you think I could just use the heavy cardboard cut into random sized strips to simulate the rock/bricks? I appreciate any input as this is my first foray into scratchbuilding something of this sort. Thanks!!

My advice would be to look into balsa foam. It's pretty cheap, comes in blocks or sheets, and is kinda like floral foam. It's that porous and kinda gritty texture. I've done some basic things with it and if you draw out your rocks with a toothpick (scratching out the outline and such) and then scrub the surface with an old toothbrush it will smooth it out, like alcohol on sculpey. It would also easily glue to the cardboards and can be painted, it doesn't melt like styrofoam. Hope that helps!

Very welcome. If nothing else just pick up some balsafoam and play around with it for a bit, see if it will suit your needs or not. Also once you have the rock shapes blocked out you can roll a ball of squished up tin foil over it to give it some texture, or press some small pieces of gravel or sand onto the surface.
