The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

just read through the thread again. This is why I will never pay up front for commissions unless it's through a rep.

Yeah its rough out there, I've had problems with reps too sadly.
Currently dealing with a "I'll ask the artist how long it's going to take" (cue hearing nothing for the next 3 weeks, rinse and repeat) situation.

Lots of bad practice in this hobby all around, sadly. I probably can't count on 1 hand artists that take money and deliver right away.

There are many reasons that I don't buy more than a stray commission or two these days. Hearing about experiences like this is the primary.

I've only had two problems with paying up front but now I wish I could do half up front half on delivery. Both of mine are still ongoing too. I like Evan's art but I'm glad I didn't get into this situation

If I'm asked to pay up front it's usually a pass or I'll make the payment through PayPal as a business transaction, but cover the fees so the artists gets the price they asked for and I still have a fallback should something go wrong. The extra few dollars are worth it to have the option of filing for a refund if the artist fails to deliver.

One month away from 9 years. Long ago resigned to the fact I’m never seeing the 2 commissions. It’s funny how things can turn out

The artist took your money 7 years ago and did not produce the artwork. Am I understanding this correctly?

I would do several things: I would post online what he has done; I would write to the legal department of DC Comics, explain what he did, and ask them to forward your letter to him so that he might resolve the situation.
