"Under the Dome" - new Stephen King novel (No spoilers, please).

Anyone else pick this up yet? I plan on doing so tomorrow.

I'm chompin' at the bit to read this.. just learned of it in the last couple'a days.

The premise seems interesting, let alone fun.

Stephen's playing with so many genres of writing in the last 20 years, it's fun to see what he toys with next (though, quite honestly, his home will always be Horror Fiction).

Again, no spoilers please. :tounge:

I'm only about 120 pages into it, but it's classic Stephen King. I'm loving it.

Half way through. I think it's great! Reminds me a lot of The Stand in terms of a huge story. King uses a lotta tried and true plot devices from his earlier works (the loner, wandering hero, salt of the earth characters, the tough as nails older woman, mentally unstable punks) and they kind of date the book a bit. It reminds me of something he would have written ini the 70's or 80's. Extremely cool premise as was The Stand.

A huge invisible dome materializes over a small town in Maine. So far, I don't know where it came from or what its purpose is. While King has introduced a town full of characters (with a good many of their names and descriptions listed at the beginning to help everyone keep track), the main character seems to be a former Army captain and Iraq War veteran named Dale Babara who had been working as a cook in the town. He used to know a Colonel Cox, who is trying to get in touch with Barbara after the dome appears. Beyond that, I'm flying blind!

I'm listening to it now and about 4 discs(?) in and I think it's one of King's best in a while.

I'm going to wait til a few people get through to the end to make sure it doesn't have the crappy ending King can do sometimes.

Usually I'd be right there with you, listening via audio cd or purchase through iTunes (which I've done countless times), but I'm tryin' to get back into actually READING books.

I'm not knocking audiobooks at all, I love 'em.. especially those that are read by the author; but I'm tryin' to get back into the habit of reading the written word... audio versions of written works don't have the same... heft.. that an actual book carries.

S'my opinion, anyways.

Thanks for all the info, guys... nowhere I went to today carried it, so tomorrow I'm going to hit either Barnes or Borders and pick it up.

I don't know if they're still doing it (selling for this price), but I pre-ordered and got mine for just $9 off of amazon.
